Paper Feathers for Gift Wrapping: Step by Step Instructions with Photos and Comments
In this craft, as in all others, we try to use only materials that are found in every household or available at the nearest store. For our paper feathers, you only need colored paper and scissors.
A practical tip: You can use various colored papers to achieve different effects. For an elegant look, pastel colors or metallic papers are suitable. For a more vibrant look, you can choose bright colors. You can also sprinkle the feathers with some glitter before making the cuts to give them a special shine.
Required materials:
- Colored paper (here we are using pink paper)
- Scissors
- Pencil (optional, for sketching)
- Gift wrapping
- Ribbon or glue for attaching
Paper Feathers, Step 1: Prepare the Paper
Cut an A4 sheet of colored paper (we are using pink) into 4 strips of roughly equal width.

Paper Feathers, Step 2: Cut Out the Feather Outline
Draw an elongated, slightly curved shape on the paper strip - similar to half a feather. Then cut along this line. When you open the paper again, you will have a symmetrical feather outline. You can also cut a feather shape directly from a longer strip of paper, as seen in the picture.

Paper Feathers, Step 3: Shape the Feather and Attach It to the Gift
Now comes the creative part: Carefully cut small notches along both sides of the feather with the scissors to create the characteristic feather fringes. The finer your cuts are, the more delicate the feather will look. You can slightly bend the cuts outward to give the feather more volume. Finally, attach the finished paper feather with a ribbon to your gift or glue it directly onto the wrapping. As you can see in the picture, the pink feather looks especially beautiful on silver wrapping paper with a golden ribbon.

Paper Feathers and Creative Gift Wrapping
The art of creative gift wrapping is a wonderful way to give your gifts a personal touch. The handmade paper feathers are not only an elegant decoration, but also show that you have put in special effort. This little gesture can make a big difference and show the recipient how important they are to you.
Feathers symbolize lightness and freedom in many cultures. They give your gifts a poetic touch and are versatile - whether for birthdays, weddings, or as a special accent on Christmas presents. You can make them in various sizes and even combine multiple feathers in different colors to create an impressive visual effect.
