Live Avatar complements Gemini 3.8 Live with speaking, animated avatars. The function is generally available through Gemini Enterprise, but is currently aimed exclusively at businesses.

Google expands Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar: Animated avatars can conduct conversations in almost real time. According to heise online, the system generates speech, lip movements, and facial expressions in sync. It can also process camera or screen sharing and respond during conversations.

What the avatars can do in conversations

The combination of speech and facial expressions is intended to make digital conversations more personal. At the same time, users can show the avatar content through a camera or screen sharing. The avatar can process these inputs and respond to them. This feature can be used for digital contacts where shown content plays a role alongside the conversation.

Available only for businesses

Live Avatar is currently aimed exclusively at businesses and is generally available through Gemini Enterprise. Customers can choose from a library of pre-designed avatars with different appearances, voices, and expression styles.

Custom avatars based on a reference photo and an audio recording are not readily available: Google must first enable this option and verify usage. A consumer version has not yet been announced by Google.

Businesses can use the avatars on websites, mobile devices, and interactive kiosks. Possible applications mentioned by Google include digital concierges and customer service.

What this practically means

For businesses, Live Avatar opens up an opportunity to create digital customer contacts with a speaking, animated face. The reaction to camera and screen sharing can help connect conversations to displayed content. However, availability remains limited to enterprise use through Gemini Enterprise. Those who want to use a custom avatar will also rely on activation and verification by Google.
