Origami Tennis: Step-by-Step Instructions with Photos and Comments

In this crafting project, as in all others, we try to use only materials that are commonly found in every household or available at the nearest store. For our origami tennis, you only need a square sheet of paper and a pen to draw the court. Regular white paper works best so the court is clearly visible.

A handy tip: If you want to make the tennis game more durable, you can cover the finished origami with clear tape or laminate it. This way, it will last longer and can be reused again and again.

Materials Needed:

  • A sheet of paper (A4)
  • Scissors (to cut the square paper)
  • Pencil or felt-tip pen
  • Ruler
  • A small ball of paper (for the tennis ball)

Origami Tennis, Step 1: Preparing the Materials

To start, we prepare everything. I have taken an A4 sheet, scissors, a pen, and a ruler for this crafting project.

Origami Tennis, Step 2: Preparing the Paper

Next, I cut a square piece from the A4 sheet. If you have already bought square origami paper, you can skip this step. We begin folding by folding the square sheet diagonally.

Origami Tennis, Step 3: The Basic Fold

Fold the sheet along the second diagonal. Then all corners need to be folded to the center.

Origami Tennis, Step 4: Additional Folds

Turn the sheet over and fold all corners to the center again. Then you need to fold 2 corners towards the edge. Next, turn the sheet over and fold 2 edges to the center.

Origami Tennis, Step 5: Shaping the Form

Now fold the long edges to the center. Bend two edges outward. Next, you need to make folds on the top and bottom sides. Then unfold the top and bottom to create a square. After that, crease all 4 corners.

Origami Tennis and the Development of Fine Motor Skills in Children

Folding an origami tennis game is not only an entertaining pastime but also offers numerous benefits for the development of your child. When folding origami, children train their dexterity and fine motor skills, which in turn improves their handwriting and overall agility. Additionally, precise folding enhances concentration and spatial thinking. Children learn to follow a series of instructions and develop patience and perseverance – skills that will benefit them in school and later in life.

The finished game also promotes hand-eye coordination and provides a great alternative to electronic games. It can be taken anywhere and does not require batteries or charging – a perfect game for on the go!
