Photoshop actions: Oil color filter does not work
Some of TutKit.com's actions use the popular Photoshop Oil Paint filter during the action process. Due to the fact that the filter is not available in all Photoshop versions, you can use these actions in Photoshop CS6 and in Photoshop CC versions from 2015.5 onwards.
Actions that use the oil color filter are often available in two ATN files, one prepared for Photoshop CS6 and the other for Photoshop CC. So make sure you know which version you are using and open the corresponding action file.
Check oil color filter
If the action does not run correctly, check the following:
You can find the oil color filter under Filter>Stylization filter. Please check there. If it is grayed out, this means that it is deactivated. To activate it, proceed as follows:
- Color mode: The filter only works in RGB color mode. Make sure that your image is in RGB. To do this, a check mark must be set for RGB color under Image>Mode.
- OpenCL (under Windows): Make sure you are using a 64-bit operating system with the 64-bit version of Photoshop.
- OpenCL (check whether activated): Under Edit, open the Preferences with the item Performance. Open the window for Advanced settings. In order for the oil filter to work, the Use Open CL entry must be activated here.
- Graphics card: Make sure that your graphics card driver is up to date. You can obtain the latest driver from the manufacturer's website. Basically, your graphics card must support OpenCL version 1.1 or higher.
