Which brands does ChatGPT recommend? Which websites does Perplexity cite as sources? And does your own company even appear in Google's AI answers? GEO tools help you investigate such questions systematically. Here, GEO means Generative Engine Optimization, not the processing of geodata. The tools record, for example, brand mentions, cited sources, and the presence of competitors in AI answers.
However, a long list of supported AI platforms is not enough when choosing a tool. What matters is which of them are included in the entry-level plan, how many questions are checked regularly, and whether the results can lead to concrete measures.
This comparison looks at seven offerings: first analytics platforms, then tools with additional audit, content, or PR functions, and finally a free entry point.
What are GEO tools?
A GEO tool examines how companies, products, or content appear in generative search and answer systems. The overarching goal of Generative Engine Optimization is to improve the visibility of your own content within such answers.
Three things need to be kept apart here: A brand is mentioned, a website is cited as a source, or a user subsequently visits that website. These are different events. Accordingly, Similarweb, for example, separates the analysis of brand presence and sources from the examination of incoming AI visitor traffic.
For GEO optimization, a way of working that connects measurement and implementation is therefore advisable: monitor relevant questions, identify missing or problematic representations, improve suitable content, and then review the development. A visibility chart alone does not change a website.
GEO, AEO, SEO: How the terms relate
SEO focuses on discoverability in search engines. Answer Engine Optimization, or AEO for short, concentrates on presence in direct answers. GEO places the emphasis on generative AI answers. In practice, the tasks overlap significantly.
The combination of GEO and SEO should therefore not be understood as an either-or. Google explicitly states that proven SEO principles also apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode. No special AI file or specific schema markup is required for this. Among other things, pages must be indexed and eligible to be shown with a search result snippet.
When choosing a tool, the label "GEO," "AEO," or "AI Visibility Tools" is therefore less decisive than the functionality actually included.
Our selection criteria
We included six ongoing monitoring offerings with publicly documented features as well as one free diagnostic tool. This is an editorial documentation comparison, not a hands-on product test with identical test accounts and prompts. The official product pages, pricing overviews, and help sections were reviewed on September 7, 2026.
The same eight criteria apply to all providers:
Platform coverage: Are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot actually tracked?
Query volume: How many prompts or queries does the entry plan include? What happens if you need more?
Germany and language: Are German-language questions for the German market supported and configurable accordingly?
Source analysis: Are specific cited pages displayed, or only aggregated visibility scores?
Competitor comparison: Can selected competitors and their share of the recorded mentions be compared?
Actionability: Does the tool deliver only metrics, additionally recommendations, or also functions for implementation?
SEO integration: How can the results be connected with existing ranking, keyword, and backlink data?
Pricing transparency: Which features are missing in the entry plan, and are the costs and limits easy to understand?
The order places particular weight on usability for German marketing and SEO teams, platform coverage in the entry plan, and source and competitor analyses. It is not a ranking of measurement accuracy.
On pricing: Only confirmed euro list prices with monthly billing are quoted. Annual discounts are not presented as monthly prices. Where only dollar prices or no reliably readable euro amounts were available, the price is left open. A missing euro figure therefore means neither "free" nor automatically "price on request only."
A fair tool comparison needs identical criteria for coverage, sources, limits, and optimization
The best GEO tools compared
1. SE Visible by SE Ranking: broad entry point for SEO-oriented teams
SE Visible by SE Ranking is a standalone product for AI visibility, not merely a hidden feature within the SEO platform. It tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode.
What it does: The tool analyzes brand mentions, their tone, competitors, and the sources used. Germany and German are explicitly documented. The separation of metrics is important: a brand mention is not automatically a source link. SE Visible treats visibility scores, source presence, and sentiment as distinct evaluations.
Entry plan and limits: Basic includes 200 prompts and three projects; the five named answer environments are included. Copilot is not part of the stated coverage. Higher or custom packages are available for larger quotas. A monthly euro price could not be confirmed on the product pricing page reviewed.
Data collection takes place daily by default. Depending on need, collection can also be set to a weekly rhythm.
Assessment: SE Visible takes first place here as a recommendation for SEO-oriented teams: the entry quota, the five answer environments, and the explicitly documented Germany support fit this use case well. The complementary SEO platform from the same provider is a further plus. It does not follow, however, that the Visible subscription automatically includes all keyword, ranking, and backlink functions. The products and booked services must be checked separately.
For an initial assessment, the German page on AI visibility tools offers a free check with up to five competitors. This is a sensible preliminary check, but it does not replace ongoing monitoring.
2. peec AI: analysis with concrete recommendations for action
What it does: peec AI shows visibility, position, sentiment, and cited sources in a competitor comparison. The platform is no longer limited to charts: among other things, it identifies sources in which competitors appear but your own brand is missing, and suggests possible measures.
Entry plan and limits: Starter includes 50 prompts, three selectable models, daily queries, one project, and unlimited users. As a selection, the pricing page lists ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Perplexity, and Gemini. All six are therefore not automatically included in the base package; additional models can be added for a fee.
For German projects, the distinction between language and country is important: the plan matrix lists one country for Starter, but unlimited languages. Germany is also examined in published peec analyses. A Starter project should therefore not be equated with unlimited international monitoring.
More prompts require a corresponding upgrade. Looker Studio is listed with the Advanced package, API access with the Enterprise package. A confirmed euro price with monthly billing could not be reliably read.
Assessment: Recommended for teams that want to regularly translate source gaps and competitor movements into tasks. For connecting with existing SEO reports, the available exports and integrations are relevant; their plan scope should be established in advance.
3. Similarweb AI Search Intelligence: distinguishing brand presence from AI traffic
What it does: Similarweb combines the monitoring of brand presence with analyses of AI traffic. The answer tracking under "AI Brand Visibility" lists ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, and Perplexity. It shows sources, competitors, share of voice, and sentiment.
The important caveat: additional platforms in the traffic analysis are no evidence of their inclusion in answer tracking. Detecting Copilot traffic, for example, does not mean systematically checking Copilot answers for brand mentions. AI Overviews are also not among the four answer environments explicitly named there.
Entry plan and limits: The AEO Intelligence package lists 150 tracked prompts, one user, and three months of data history. Classic keyword research, rank tracking, backlink analysis, and website audits are listed in the larger combined AEO/SEO package, not in the pure entry plan. No confirmed monthly euro price is available for this comparison. Terms for additional quotas should be clarified in the quote.
Region and language are selected during campaign setup and, according to the help section, cannot be changed afterward. The specific availability of the Germany/German combination was not clearly evident from the public guide reviewed. It should therefore be verified in a demo.
Assessment: Especially worth considering if a team wants to evaluate brand presence and actual visitor traffic separately. The source and topic analyses provide starting points for measures; they are not equivalent to automatic implementation on your own website.
4. Rankscale: flexible queries and technical audits
What it does: Rankscale combines visibility, source, sentiment, and competitor analyses with website audits. The documented coverage includes ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Copilot. The provider states global country and language support, which should also cover German configurations.
Entry plan and limits: Rankscale works with credits rather than exclusively a fixed number of prompts. Being able to create any number of search questions therefore does not mean being able to run them as often as you like. Consumption depends on the selected systems and the check frequency; additional credits can be purchased.
The cheapest listed plan is called Essentials. Its specific quotas could not be reliably read from the dynamic plan matrix. For the Pro package above it, 1,200 credits per month, ten brand dashboards, and 50 page audits are confirmed. These values must not be attributed to the entry plan. A verified monthly euro price is not stated here.
Data connectivity is also plan-dependent: for example, exporting the additional AI search queries as CSV or to Google Sheets requires at least Pro; REST API functions are listed for higher packages.
Assessment: Interesting for technically oriented teams that want to combine measurement and audits. Compared with a fixed prompt allowance, the credit model demands more of your own capacity planning. The broad platform selection is an advantage; the unclear Essentials limits are a transparency drawback.
5. Profound: monitoring with additional content workflows
What it does: Profound analyzes brand mentions, sources, competitors, and share of voice. In addition, "Agents" provide functions for content creation and optimization workflows. This goes beyond pure monitoring and makes the offering interesting for teams that want to develop repeatable editorial processes from analysis results.
Entry plan and limits: Starter includes 50 prompts and daily ChatGPT tracking, equivalent to 1,500 answers in a 30-day month. In addition, there are 100 Agents credits. The package is limited to one user, one language, and one region. CSV/JSON exports and API access are not part of the entry plan.
Especially important: the broad platform coverage of the overall product does not automatically apply to Starter. Only Growth adds Perplexity and AI Overviews in the stated package; further systems and more extensive international requirements are covered beyond that. If additional prompts are needed, the quotas must be expanded. Agents credits are also a separate consumption budget. No confirmed monthly euro price is available.
German-language queries for Germany are documented in Profound's own research. Which market and language configuration is actually available for the desired subscription should nevertheless be part of the setup.
Assessment: Profound is especially worth considering when content workflows matter more than the broadest possible platform coverage in the cheapest plan. Its operational focus can be the deciding factor here compared with a primarily analytical tool.
Only sources, answer context, and time series make changes in AI visibility traceable
6. blinq: connecting AI visibility with PR measures
What it does: blinq links source and competitor analyses with media research and PR work. The question "Which publications are being cited?" is meant to become an actionable communications task. To this end, the platform offers media contacts, topic analysis, and pitch support.
According to the current product description, it tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity, with daily queries. AI Mode, Gemini, and Copilot should therefore not be assumed to be included monitoring. The German-language focus is a natural fit for German communications and PR teams; additional country and language quotas are not itemized in detail in the plan overview.
Entry plan and limits: Freelancer costs 69 euros per month with monthly billing and includes 25 active GEO prompts and one user. The price is as of September 7, 2026. Larger packages are available for more active prompts or multiple users. No automatic overage price is assumed.
The strength therefore lies not in maximum platform coverage or a complete classic SEO database, but in the combination of analysis and PR work. Here too: a suggested publication or a sent pitch guarantees neither publication nor a later AI mention.
Assessment: blinq is particularly interesting for teams with their own press and communications work. If source analyses are meant to lead directly to media outreach, this focus is more relevant than an additional visibility graph.
Comparison table
As of: September 7, 2026. Euro prices refer to monthly billing; the free grader is a one-time diagnostic.
1 country according to plan matrix; additional models cost extra
Similarweb
Brand presence and AI traffic
AEO Intelligence: 150 prompts, 1 user
3 months of history; classic SEO tools in the larger package
Rankscale
Monitoring and technical audits
Essentials quota not verified; Pro: 1,200 credits
Execution consumes credits; various exports only from Pro
Profound
Monitoring and content workflows
Starter: 50 prompts, 100 Agents credits
ChatGPT only, 1 language, 1 region, 1 user; no data exports
blinq

Freelancer: 25 active GEO prompts, 1 user
Three tracked answer environments; higher quotas in larger packages
The table is deliberately not a simple price comparison: a prompt, an evaluated answer, and a credit are different units.
AI Overview tracking: what matters in practice
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode must be considered separately. Google points out that different models and processes may be used. As a result, answers and linked sources can also differ from one another. AI Overviews also do not appear for every search query.
A cleanly documented measurement setup is equally important. For an initial pilot, a limited set of relevant questions is a good starting point, divided into information search, provider comparison, and purchase intent. Country, language, wording, answer environment, and competitors should remain as constant as possible. Brand-related questions should be evaluated separately from general category questions.
