Reddit is splitting the feed on its home page into two views: “For You” and “Following.” The company announced the overhaul in the Reddit Newsroom, and the rollout will run worldwide over the coming weeks.
Until now, suggestions from subreddits you haven't joined appeared directly between the posts from your communities in the same feed, as TechCrunch describes. These recommendations now get their own view.
What do “For You” and “Following” show?
“For You” combines posts from communities you have joined with recommendations that Reddit derives from your interests. This view therefore also shows subreddits you didn't know before. “Following” is limited to the communities you are a member of.
You can switch between the two views at any time. The next time you open it, the platform shows the feed you used last. Reddit therefore doesn't set a fixed default, even though “For You” comes first, according to Social Media Today.
Reddit is only announcing further settings for now: hiding posts and specifying what you want to see less of. The company has not yet said when these options will arrive.
When will the new feed arrive in Germany?
Reddit does not give a date for individual countries, only the worldwide launch in the coming weeks. The German names, however, are already settled. In the German version of the announcement, the views are called “Für dich” and “Gefolgt”, and in the English original “For You” and “Following”. Reddit speaks generally of users and mentions neither a subscription nor a test group.
How should the overhaul be assessed?
Instagram, X, Threads and Facebook have been using such a recommendation feed for some time, and TikTok popularized the principle. With “For You,” Reddit is following suit, as TechCrunch characterizes the move. The difference lies in the freedom of choice on the home page: you see your communities in both views, but the recommendations in only one.
According to TechCrunch, some testers have already complained about the change in Reddit's help forum.
What this means for you
If you mainly use Reddit for technical questions in fixed subreddits, such as on Lightroom, Blender or WordPress, it's best to switch to “Following” as soon as the option appears for you. Suggestions from outside then disappear from your feed, and you can switch back at any time.
If you manage a community or post on Reddit for clients, the path to new readers shifts. People outside your community will only reach your posts via the home page in “For You.” It's best to note down now how many visits and new members your community had in recent weeks, so you have a comparison after the launch.
Visitors who come via “For You” don't yet know your community's rules. A clear description and pinned rules make it easier for newcomers to get started. A lesson in the content marketing course shows how to contribute to other communities instead of just distributing links.
Reddit presented the new feeds on October 28, 2026.
