EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027 has launched a design competition for the medals of the European Championship of Skills. Apprentices as well as pupils and students of all vocational schools from Germany and Luxembourg may take part, alone or in a team of up to three people. The submission deadline is 31 December 2026. All conditions can be found in the call for entries on the EuroSkills website.
The winning design will be used to produce the medals for the championship from 22 to 26 September 2027 in Düsseldorf, where young professionals from all over Europe will compete in around 50 disciplines.
What do you have to design?
What is needed is a single medal design that can be adapted for all six award levels: Gold, Silver and Bronze as well as the three special awards Medal for Excellence, Best of Nation and Jos de Goey Best in Europe Award. The front must bear the WorldSkills Europe logo. The back shows the logo of EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027, a prescribed lettering and the respective level in English.
- The medal measures 65 to 70 millimetres in diameter and is 4 to 6 millimetres thick without relief; the three special awards are scaled down to 90 percent.
- You mark raised elements in the design.
- The ribbon is 20 millimetres wide, has its own colour for each level and names only the level; for Gold, Silver and Bronze, the organisers would like the matching colour tones.
- The case stays simple and applies to all variants.
A PDF file is submitted with a cover sheet, designs for the medal, ribbon and case as well as a sketch page, no larger than 8 MB. The jury does not assess incomplete entries.
How does submission work, and what is prohibited?
The entry is submitted exclusively by a teacher or trainer via the form on the website, for example from the vocational school or the inter-company training centre. A maximum of three designs per teacher is permitted. If more people in your class are interested, only a selection or a second teacher will help.
The call for entries prohibits image templates, the creative use of AI and any assistance from professional designers. In the form, the teacher confirms this for each team member individually. An image generator such as Firefly or Midjourney is therefore ruled out, and according to this wording, also for finding motifs. Hand drawings and graphics programs, on the other hand, are expressly permitted.
How does the selection work, and what can you win?
From all submissions, a jury compiles a shortlist of up to five designs and publishes it on 28 February 2027. The jury determines the winning design together with the European umbrella organisation WorldSkills Europe.

The winner will be announced between 18 and 21 April 2027 at the Luxembourg career fair Schoulfoire, to which the Luxembourg Ministry of Education invites the shortlisted participants together with their accompanying teacher. The organisers reward the winning design with a four-figure prize sum and a set of the finished medals; the other shortlisted participants receive prizes in kind.
What this means for you
It is best to approach your teacher or trainer still in November. Only this way does your design get into the competition, and the deadline ends on New Year's Eve at 11:59 p.m., right in the middle of the Christmas holidays.
Before the first sketch, download the design documents. The package contains the brand manual, both logos, the central campaign motifs and, as a reference, the medals of EuroSkills Herning 2025. It is better to leave out ready-made ornaments, patterns or graphic styles from template packages, because the call for entries excludes image templates.
It is best to show raised areas with a side view next to the top view or as greyscale, light for high. How relief and embossing effects are created in vector graphics is shown in the Illustrator course on relief and embossing.
If you yourself teach in a design, media or metalworking programme, the call for entries gives you a ready-made project assignment, and that is exactly what the organisers recommend the competition for.
EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027 published the call for entries on 12 October 2026.
