OpenAI raised the quota for ChatGPT Work and Codex in the Pro subscriptions on October 29. According to the ChatGPT release notes, Pro 100 and Pro 500 now include a quota twice as large as before. For Pro 200, two quotas of different sizes most recently applied; the smaller one now rises to the level of the larger one. Existing subscriptions get the new values immediately, and you don't have to wait for a renewal.
In the heading of the release notes, OpenAI additionally mentions Business Premium, but in the text it quantifies the change only for the three Pro tiers. Their prices stay the same.
What happens to the cut for Pro 200?
For Pro 200, OpenAI is reversing a cut that the provider had announced by email on September 29. Since then, new subscriptions received the smaller quota, and older ones were supposed to follow after a transition period through October 29, inclusive. On the last day of this period, OpenAI scrapped the cut. According to the help page on the Pro tiers, subscriptions with the higher quota keep it, while those with the lower one receive double and are thus on par.

Separate from this, a dedicated weekly limit applies to messages to GPT-6 Pro in chat. Pro 100 and Pro 500 keep their previous limits, while on Pro 200 the lower weekly limit rises to the higher one. As of October 30, the German version of the help page still describes the old rule with the cut after the cutoff date; only the English one is up to date.
How far does the doubled quota go?
Twice as much quota does not mean twice as many completed tasks, as OpenAI itself points out. Consumption depends on the model, the model's reasoning effort, the tools used, the chosen speed, and how much context ChatGPT processes.
Fast mode consumes the quota 2.5 times as fast as the standard mode of the same model. With the doubled quota, you therefore get 80 percent of what the old quota delivered in standard mode when using fast mode. OpenAI offers Ultrafast only on Pro 500 for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol and charges eight times as much for it. With Ultrafast, the new quota is only enough for a quarter of the previous amount in standard mode.
Once the quota is used up, you buy additional credits for Codex, ChatGPT Work, and the extensions for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You can find your balance and the purchase option in ChatGPT under Settings → Usage.
What this means for you
If you canceled Pro 200 because of the announced cut, you can return without any disadvantage: New subscriptions get the same quota as everyone else on this tier. If your subscription is still running, you don't have to do anything. Canceling and re-subscribing brings no advantage.
If you work a lot with Codex or Work, it's worth checking the usage display before buying credits or switching to Pro 500. It's best to start long tasks that aren't urgent in standard mode, because every switch to fast mode eats up part of the doubling again. How to use ChatGPT more purposefully in everyday work is shown by the ChatGPT Masterclass on TutKit.
With Plus, everything stays as it was, and the doubling alone is no reason to upgrade as long as the Plus quota is enough for you. Since October 28, the Pro tiers have also included a monthly API credit.
OpenAI published the change in the ChatGPT release notes on October 29, 2026.
