The Gutenberg plugin 24.3 formats text that spans multiple blocks in a single step. The developers released the version on October 28 and presented it on November 2 on the make.wordpress.org blog. The version also includes the security fixes from WordPress 7.1.4.
The plugin is intended for site operators who want to try out new editor features in advance. According to the plugin description, stable features are included in every WordPress version from 5.0 onward anyway.
What changes in the editor?
The team mentions text selection first: formatting can now also be applied to a selection that spans multiple blocks. With Shift+click within a block, the text selection is retained. In addition, the version brings smaller changes that matter in day-to-day editorial work.

- Notes: Five emoji reactions are available, from a heart to a rocket. A draft marker identifies notes that have not yet been submitted.
- Media selection: Files appear as a grid, the same component as in the lists of the Site Editor. Audio files and other file types besides images and videos show a proper preview.
- Save errors: The message can be copied and expanded with „Show details“. If autosave fails, a countdown shows when the next attempt starts.
- Patterns: „My patterns“ is now called „Site patterns“ and has an author filter.
- Reduce motion: Background videos from the Cover and Video blocks no longer start automatically on the public website when this setting is active in the operating system.
Which sites is the version intended for?
The plugin requires WordPress 7.0 or higher and PHP 7.4 or higher, and is tested up to WordPress 7.1.4. The plugin directory lists the project as open-source software and states no price. Whether the new features are available in German is not stated in the source, and the post does not mention any country restrictions either.
The developers recommend the update because of the security fixes. Websites without the Gutenberg plugin receive the fixes with the regular update to 7.1.4, which TutKit has already reported on. For developers who compile Gutenberg themselves, Node.js 22 is now the minimum version.
What this means for you
Check in your site's plugin list whether Gutenberg is installed and which version is running. If it shows a version older than 24.3, the update is worthwhile because of the security fixes. It is best to install the plugin first in a test environment of your website, because according to the plugin directory, the plugin is aimed at users who want to test features in advance.
In the test environment, try out the new features that affect your daily work: select text across two paragraphs and format it in one go, open the media selection and see how the grid displays your files. If a background video is running in a Cover block on your site, check with the „Reduce motion“ setting enabled in the operating system that the video does not start on its own.
How the block editor works is explained by the lesson on the Gutenberg editor in the WordPress beginner course.
The WordPress team published the post on Gutenberg 24.3 on November 2, 2026.
