Wordfence will soon charge more for its WordPress security plugin. From December 3, 2026, prices for the three paid tiers Premium, Care and Response will go up. The provider announced the increase one month in advance in a blog post.

The free version of the plugin does not appear in the announcement. Wordfence also does not state any euro price; all amounts are in US dollars.

How expensive will each tier be?

The annual prices in US dollars will then be: Premium 199, Care 890 and Response 1,900. The amounts apply per license.

Customers with an older Premium price, which Wordfence calls "Legacy Pricing," will pay 40 percent more than before. Wordfence does not state the previous standard price. The increase can therefore only be quantified for these existing customers.

The volume discounts for Premium remain in place. For new purchases, the active licenses in the account plus the newly purchased ones are taken into account; for renewals, the active licenses at the time of renewal. Expired licenses are not included in the calculation.

Active Premium licensesDiscountPrice per license and year (US dollars)

2 to 410 %179.10
5 to 915 %169.15
10 to 1420 %159.20
from 1525 %149.25

Ten Premium licenses will then cost 1,592 per year, and fifteen will come to 2,238.75, each in US dollars. Care costs roughly four and a half times as much as Premium per license.

How long does the old price still apply?

Before December 3, you can still renew licenses at the current price. Renewal is possible up to one year before the expiration date. Such a renewal pushes the expiration date back by one year.

An example: If a Premium license expires in June 2027, its term can already be secured until June 2028 now. Licenses with more than one year of remaining term do not yet qualify for this. For licenses originally purchased for several years, the same rule applies as soon as the final year is running.

What this means for you

It's best to check right away in your Wordfence account when your licenses expire. You can still renew all those that end within a year at the old price before December 3. Log in beforehand so that Wordfence takes your existing licenses into account for the volume discount.

Then consider whether Premium is worthwhile for each of your websites. One difference from the free version is speed: Premium, Care and Response customers receive new firewall rules immediately, while free users receive them with a 30-day delay. For the WordPress 7.1.4 security update, the rule for paying customers went out on October 28, about three hours after the release; free users will not receive the rule until November 27. How quickly attackers reacted is shown in the report on the attack attempts after the release of the update.

For emergencies, Wordfence offers the higher tiers. The security incident team is open to Care and Response customers: according to Wordfence, Care responds during business hours, Response around the clock with a response time of one hour.

How to secure WordPress and create backups is shown in the lesson on security and backups in TutKit's beginner course.

Wordfence announced the price increase on November 3, 2026.
