Claude Enterprise analyzes on request what a team uses the assistant for. The feature is called Smart Reports and is described in Anthropic's help center. A report shows task areas, costs, and points where work gets stuck.

Smart Reports is switched off by default. Only an Owner can switch it on. Outside of Claude Enterprise, the feature does not exist.

What does a report contain?

An admin selects a team, a period of at most 28 days, and the products Chat, Claude Code, or Cowork. Claude reads a sample of the conversations, assigns the selection to task areas, and attributes costs at list price to each area.

What a report shows
Default setting in Claude Enterprise
  • Task areas and costs at list price
  • Obstacles and most expensive sessions
  • Names and session IDs, as long as the switch is off
  • Individual sessions on personal and sensitive topics
  • Claude Code with Zero Data Retention
Not intended for personnel decisions, Anthropic writes

The report also names common obstacles such as missing integrations, login problems, or repeated rounds of corrections. It lists the most expensive sessions and recommends saving recurring workflows as shared skills.

Who sees the names?

Names depend on a separate switch labeled "Allow attribution to individual users". It is off by default.

When the switch is off, every detail view shows "User" instead of a name and hides session IDs. When it is on, names can be revealed, and every reveal is logged.

Sessions on sensitive topics such as health, union activity, legal matters, or private life are only counted in the report, without a summary. Personal conversations likewise appear only as a number, without an individual session and without names. These protection rules cannot be switched off. Anthropic writes that the reports are not intended to evaluate individuals or to prepare personnel decisions. t3n points out that conclusions about efficiency can nevertheless be drawn from costs and patterns.

Who can create reports and how often?

Reports are created by account holders (Owners), admins, and roles with permission for analytics. Owners can also enable team leads. Team leads only analyze assigned groups, departments, or cost centers, never the whole organization.

Each organization creates up to ten reports per month for free; reports by team leads count toward this. Failed runs do not count. On the first day of the next month, the counter resets. A report usually takes a few hours, and an email confirms its creation.

Who can use Smart Reports in Germany?

Smart Reports is only available in Claude Enterprise. Excluded are organizations with customer-managed keys, with settings for US health data protection (HIPAA), or with a hybrid deployment in which the models run at the organization's own cloud provider. If Zero Data Retention applies to Claude Code, meaning a contract without storage of the content at the provider, the report covers only Chat and Cowork. The help page does not mention any restriction by country.

What this means for you

If you use Claude through your employer's Enterprise account, it is best to ask IT whether Smart Reports is switched on and whether the switch for names is set to on. Only then do you know what a report reveals about your conversations.

It's better to ask private questions in a separate account. A clear separation of work and private life protects you even without protection rules.

If you lead a team and want to use Smart Reports, clarify beforehand who gets access and whether your works council needs to be involved. The reports are mainly useful for resolving obstacles such as missing integrations and for capturing recurring workflows as skills, so that the team doesn't have to explain everything anew each time. More on working with Claude in everyday life is offered by the course Claude AI: Mehr als nur chatten.
