Quixel changed the terms for all of its assets on November 5, 2026. According to the Quixel announcement, Megascans and Megaplants may now be used for training AI models. The entire Megascans library no longer costs anything on the Fab marketplace.
What is becoming free?
The complete Megascans library, Quixel writes. According to 80.lv, that is around 23,000 3D scans, including architecture, furniture, vehicles, food, creatures, and many materials such as damaged surfaces, natural materials, and fabrics. According to 80.lv and GameFromScratch, Fab will gradually update the listings until November 12. A scan that still costs money can therefore become free this week.
Quixel does not name a deadline. The library was already free on Fab in 2024, at that time, according to CG Channel, only until the end of the year. 80.lv views the new promotion as permanent. This assessment comes from the editorial team; there is no explicit commitment in the Quixel announcement.
What changes regarding AI training?
Megascans and Megaplants can now be used to train AI models. Quixel names photorealistic environments as the goal, where models are trained on real scans. The announcement does not comment on the commercial use of trained models. According to GameFromScratch, the license text of the Fab listings had also not yet been updated at the time of publication. The site assumes the update will happen by November 12. For you, the wording of the license on the individual asset therefore matters more than the headline.
What applies to Megascans already purchased?
Quixel credits the purchase price of purchases made from January 1, 2025 onward to the Epic account as credit, for individual Megascans as well as for Quixel bundles. To get it, you log in to your Epic account and accept the new terms. The credit is supposed to appear in the account by the end of 2026 and is valid for all Epic products, not just on Fab.

Your license remains in place, and the AI rights are added. Studio licenses continue to run according to the respective contract. Quixel does not mention a payout to a bank account, nor a euro amount for the refund or a restriction to certain countries. In case of problems, the announcement refers to Fab support.
What this means for you
Open the Fab page of the scans you need for your project. Note whether a price is still listed there. Until November 12, waiting is worth more than buying, because until then Fab is updating the listings, according to 80.lv.
If you have purchased Megascans since January 1, 2025, log in to your Epic account and accept the new terms. Check at the end of the year whether the credit appears there.
If you plan to train AI models with the scans, first read the license for the individual asset and the new terms. For client projects and studio licenses, the respective contract applies.
Our assessment: For creatives who have so far bought scans and materials, one cost item is eliminated. How long that remains the case, Quixel does not say.
