For channels facing immediate termination because of certain violations of the spam policy, YouTube is testing an alternative. Instead of removing the channel, YouTube suspends it for 30 days and gives you the opportunity to edit or delete the content in question. The YouTube team presented the test in the collective post on ongoing experiments in the YouTube Help Community.
Until now, spam has been among the violations for which YouTube can terminate a channel the first time without a warning. The help page on channel termination explicitly names spreading spam as a violation that can lead to termination even in a single case.
How do you get out of the suspension?
If a channel is included in the test, YouTube notifies the owner by email and in YouTube Studio on a computer. During the suspension, you cannot upload videos or write comments. YouTube offers three ways to clean up.
Out of the spam suspension: three ways
YouTube test for selected channels, announced on October 29, 2026
What applies to your channel?
- Individual videos violate the rulesEdit or delete videos in YouTube Studio
- You want to start over with an empty channelDelete all videos, subscribers and handle remain
- You think the suspension is wrongFile an appeal
Without cleanup within 30 days, YouTube terminates the channel. YouTube does not name the countries or criteria for the test.

You edit or delete individual videos with the tools in YouTube Studio, such as the video editor. If you delete all videos, YouTube unlocks the channel immediately. You file an appeal if you believe the suspension is a mistake and your channel complies with the rules.
After the cleanup, a review follows, and once the content in question is gone, the channel is unlocked. If the channel does not pass the review, there remains the option within the 30 days to delete all videos and start over with an empty channel. Subscribers, handle and YouTube Partner Program status are then retained. Without cleanup within 30 days, the channel is terminated.
Which channels does the test apply to, including in Germany?
YouTube speaks of an experiment for channels that are eligible for it, and names neither countries nor criteria. Whether German channels are already included is unclear. The announcement also refers only to certain spam violations. The tiered system of warning and strikes remains unchanged: after three strikes within 90 days, YouTube can terminate a channel.
The spam policy defines the term broadly and names, among other things, comment spam, sub exchange schemes like Sub4Sub, and other people's clips without your own context. Also prohibited are videos mass-produced with AI on an assembly-line basis with only minimal changes, as well as titles and thumbnails that deliberately promise more than the video delivers. The point on AI mass production can also affect channels that produce in series with templates and AI without wanting to deceive anyone.
A termination costs more than the videos in question: afterwards, a channel's YouTube content can no longer be downloaded, only the remaining Google data. In the test, by contrast, a cleaned-up channel keeps its subscribers.
What this means for you
It's best to go through your channel now using the spam policy. Pay particular attention to reused clips from others, series of identical AI images with a read-aloud script, and thumbnails that show more than the video. Which rules many creators overlook is explained in the lesson on important YouTube policies from the YouTube marketing course.
Also check whether your channel's email address is up to date and whether you check it regularly. The deadline is only 30 days, and the notification arrives by email and in YouTube Studio on a computer.
It's best to also back up your original files outside of YouTube. You can appeal a termination for up to a year afterwards, at most twice within a year.
