Since October, PowerPoint for Windows, Mac, and the web has included the skill "Create interactive slide," a built-in Copilot feature. In the monthly overview of the Copilot blog, Microsoft reports the skill as rolled out. According to the announcement from October 19, this applies to the Current Channel and the Monthly Enterprise Channel, through which Microsoft 365 distributes new features. Based on a prompt or existing content, Copilot generates a slide on which sections can be expanded, charts can be filtered, and timelines can be stepped through one step at a time.

How do you create an interactive slide?

The "Interactive slide" button is located on the Home and Insert tabs. Alternatively, in the Copilot pane you select "Create interactive slide" in the skill selection and describe in the chat what the slide should show: a dashboard, a process, a timeline, or a comparison. Your own presentation or other files such as an Excel workbook or a Word document serve as the basis. The help page shows as an example a financial dashboard with tabs for revenue, profitability, and cash flow.

You don't edit anything directly on the slide. Every change, from the chart type to a filter by region to the colors, is made through another instruction in the Copilot chat. Behind the elements are small web pages embedded in the slide, which Microsoft describes as sandboxed, with no connection to other content or services. If you reopen the file, the slide is back in the state Copilot last generated.

Who gets the feature, and where does it work?

Microsoft does not require a separate license. The feature is open to consumer and business customers who can already use Copilot in PowerPoint. For consumer subscriptions in Germany, these are Microsoft 365 Single, Family, and Premium; with the Family subscription, however, the AI features are only available to the person who took out the subscription. Microsoft 365 Basic does not include AI features. Microsoft does not state which languages the feature understands. The help page is already available in German.

The slide stays interactive in the Copilot app, in PowerPoint for Windows, Mac, web, and iPad, and in PowerPoint Live in Teams. On iPhone and Android, in printouts, and in PDF export, PowerPoint shows only a static image. On the Mac, the elements only work in slide show mode, not in presenter view. In Teams, each person clicks for themselves; what you expand during your talk, the others do not see. Recipients without a Copilot license can still operate the elements.

What this means for you

For handouts and customer materials in PDF format, it's best to plan a second, static version, because collapsed details do not appear in the image. If you want to guide everyone through the same view in a Teams meeting, it's better to share your screen instead of showing the file via PowerPoint Live.

Before your next talk, feel free to check whether the button already appears on the Insert tab; if it's missing, it's best to install the latest version. With the Tab key you jump into the controls, with Esc you go back, and the arrow keys change slides as usual. How to create slides from your content with Copilot in PowerPoint is shown in the Copilot lesson on quick presentations.

If you need full control over every element, you can still build a clickable dashboard by hand. The way to do so is shown in the PowerPoint course in the chapter on the interactive tile dashboard.

Microsoft introduced the feature on October 19, 2026, and confirmed the rollout in the monthly overview of October 30, 2026.
