Apple has released Logic Pro 13, the first app in the Creator Studio updates. According to MacRumors, the remaining apps in the subscription will follow over the course of November. According to Bonedo, the update costs nothing for owners of the one-time license; the individual new features are listed in Apple's Release Notes.

What's new in Logic Pro 13?

In the Unified Browser, you'll find loops, one-shots, instrument and effect patches, and plug-in presets in one place; you can also tag your own and third-party sounds. Sounds from Splice only appear if the Splice app is installed and you have downloaded sounds. For searching by text description, searching for similar sounds, and the automatic analysis of locations, Apple requires a Mac with an Apple chip.

The Stem Splitter now separates a drum kit into individual tracks: bass drum, snare, hi-hat, toms, cymbals, and other percussion instruments. Logic combines the tracks in a Track Stack. The Play Surface is a window for playing, with a keyboard and chord strips or a grid of drum pads. Multi-touch works on a MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display or on an iPad via Sidecar; via Sidecar, you can also move a plug-in window onto the iPad. In addition, there is the interface in the Liquid Glass look, in which, according to Bonedo, all functions remain in their familiar places.

What can the Intelligent Assistant do, and what does it need?

MacRumors describes the Intelligent Assistant as a helper that builds beats from natural-language requests. Bonedo sees it more as a point of contact for questions about setting up tracks; entire tracks cannot yet be created via prompt there, and the assistant still seems unpolished. Both fit the beta status that Apple itself states.

Apple lists the requirements in the Release Notes. The assistant only works with the Creator Studio subscription, on a Mac with an Apple chip and with macOS 27 or later; in addition, you need an Apple account with iCloud set up. It only understands English input, and usage limits may apply. The assistant is missing from the one-time license; the other new features apply there as well.

What this means for you

If you already own Logic Pro, it's best to back up the installed version and your projects before the update. That is exactly what Apple recommends in the Release Notes. You get the browser, drum stems, and Play Surface without a subscription; for the stems, it's worth testing them on one of your own drum recordings.

A simple calculation based on the euro prices on Apple's German product page helps with the subscription check: The one-time license corresponds to roughly 18 monthly payments of the subscription or just under two annual payments. The calculation is ours. It does not factor in that the subscription includes additional apps. For teachers and students, Apple lists a discounted subscription price there, and new subscribers get a 30-day trial period.

If you want to use the assistant mainly in German, it's out of the question for now. Feel free to try it out on one of your own projects during the trial period before you sign up for a subscription for it. Bonedo also doubts that the changes justify a new version number; an update to 12.5 would have seemed equally reasonable to the author, as Logic Pro 13 brings no new effects or instruments.

Apple released Logic Pro 13 on November 5, 2026.
