Christoph Columbus (1451–1506) was a Genoese navigator who set out in 1492 on behalf of Spain to find a western sea route to India. Instead, he encountered islands off the coast of Central America, thereby changing the worldview of his time. The Spanish flag that he shows in this scene symbolizes the support from Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand II of Aragon. While the Santa Maria, the Pinta, and the Niña crossed the Atlantic, curiosity and bravery ensured that Europe and America made direct contact for the first time. Children learn playfully about sailing ships, historical clothing, and the colors red and gold that symbolized power and wealth at that time while coloring. The motif also encourages discussions about seafaring, navigation with a compass, and the exploratory spirit of past centuries. Colorful Journey of Discovery

In the image, you discover Columbus in wide pants, with a doublet and beret, surrounded by amazed children. For the flag, you choose bright red and gold yellow, dark wooden parts of the ships, or earth brown for the docks. You can design the sky in light blue and the sea in a rich blue-green. Skin tones, hair, and clothing of the children can be applied in a variety of shades so that each figure appears lively. The clear linework makes it easy for you to color with colored pencils, markers, or a digital brush. Get the free JPG template, print it out, or open it directly in the browser for online coloring.
