iZotope released Photon on November 3, 2026, developed together with its new owner Boris FX. The app runs standalone on Windows and macOS or as an extension in audio programs.
For video creators and podcasters, the Cinema model matters most, which splits the sound of a finished film into dialogue, music, effects, and the rest. Digital Production cites as an example a fully edited video from which the music is supposed to disappear again.
What does Photon separate and repair?
Photon contains twelve models, six for separating and six for noise removal. Besides Cinema, the app splits a finished music mix into four tracks and a drum kit into five tracks (bass drum, snare, hi-hat, toms, cymbals). Another model separates the vocals from the accompaniment. The Voice Separator places up to six speakers from a recording onto their own tracks.
Photon in numbers
The audio app from iZotope and Boris FX, available since November 3, 2026
- 12Models for separating and noise removal
- 4Tracks from the sound of a finished film: dialogue, music, effects, rest
- 6Speakers the Voice Separator places on their own tracks
- 5Tracks from a drum kit
According to bonedo, the models do not work entirely without artifacts

Voice Restore is responsible for speech: The model removes noise and reverb, evens out fluctuating levels, and corrects the microphone sound, all in one pass. Five further models are tailored to environments: indoors, loud indoors, outdoor recording, road traffic, and wind.
In the bonedo test, the speech processing impressed even with heavily disturbed material, but the results were not entirely free of artifacts. On a MacBook Pro with M4 Pro, the tester rarely had to wait.
How do you get Photon into Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?
You can only integrate Photon there via a workaround. As an ARA2 extension, that is, directly in the audio project, Photon works in Pro Tools, Cubase, and REAPER, and on Windows also in Sequoia and Samplitude. According to Production Expert, iZotope does not offer a classic plug-in in VST3 or AU format. Video editing programs are not on the list.
For video editing, Digital Production therefore recommends the standalone app. Photon reads video files in MP4, MOV, MXF, or MKV and, if desired, saves the result as video again in the same format, with the picture unchanged. Pure audio tracks are exported by the app as WAV, FLAC, or MP3.
What does Photon cost and what does your computer need?
You can buy Photon or use it on a monthly or annual subscription. Until December 7, 2026, an introductory price applies that is a good quarter below the regular purchase price. Owners of other iZotope programs pay less as crossgraders, least of all with RX Advanced. According to Digital Production, subscribers to CrumplePop and the Boris FX Suite get Photon at no extra charge, as the successor to the CrumplePop SoundApp. Photon is also available in Germany, and bonedo lists euro prices in its test.
On the Mac, Photon requires Apple Silicon from M1 and macOS 14; Intel Macs are left out. On Windows, the app requires 64-bit Windows 10 and a graphics card with at least 4 GB of video memory. Your recordings do not leave the computer.
According to Production Expert, Logic Pro and Pro Tools now split music into tracks themselves. iZotope already offers a counterpart to the Cinema model in RX 12 Advanced, which costs around four times as much. Whether Photon keeps up with RX 12 Advanced in terms of sound quality has not yet been tested by Production Expert.
What this means for you
With a CrumplePop or Boris FX Suite subscription, it's best to first check in the Boris FX Hub whether Photon is available for you there. How well CrumplePop removes noise is shown by the lesson with the AI test.
Without such a subscription, it's best to decide by December 7, after which the introductory price ends. If you already work with Logic Pro or Pro Tools, Photon mainly offers you something new for speech and film sound. The app does not run on an Intel Mac.
In video editing, expect an intermediate step via export and import. How to swap an audio track without re-rendering the video is shown in a lesson from the course on audio recordings.
