B Backup Sh Sharing

Use cases

Encrypted storage for documents and project files, scheduled folder backups from your computer, password-protected file sharing; in the Ultimate plan also NAS backup and access via WebDAV, CLI or Rclone.

Our assessment

Suits you if encryption and a European provider matter to you and you like a one-time payment instead of a subscription. For photo and design archives, versioning is rather weak, as it only covers Office, PDF and CSV files. Supported documents also have size limits: up to 10 MB on Premium and 20 MB on Ultimate.

  • Location not confirmed – not confirmed for the plan considered
  • Also as lifetime/one-off purchase
  • End-to-end encryption: Included by default

Encryption

With Internxt, files are encrypted directly on your device before they are uploaded. The provider speaks of zero-knowledge encryption and uses the post-quantum scheme Kyber-512 alongside AES-256. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. This applies to all plans.

You can additionally protect your account with two-factor authentication. Since Internxt says it does not store your password, you should keep it safe.

Provider, location and DPA

Internxt Universal Technologies SL is based in Valencia, Spain. According to the help centre, the entire infrastructure is located in the European Union; Internxt mentions several European data centres and works with OVHcloud. However, the information is not consistent: the product page speaks of data centres in Europe and other locations, the terms of servers and nodes in different countries around the world. Internxt does not mention a selectable storage location.

Internxt describes itself as GDPR-compliant and, according to its terms, acts as a data processor. A data protection agreement can be downloaded from the help centre; we have not reviewed its content.

Trash and versions

How long deleted files stay in the trash depends on the plan: 7 days on Essential, 14 days on Premium according to the pricing page – the help centre says 15 – and 30 days on Ultimate. On the free plan it's 2 days, according to the help pages.

According to the help centre, file versioning is only available in Premium and Ultimate: up to 10 versions over 15 days or up to 20 versions over 30 days. Important for creatives: it only applies to PDF, Word, Excel and CSV files up to 10 MB on Premium or 20 MB on Ultimate. This is much smaller than the upload limit (50 GB on Premium, 100 GB on Ultimate). You cannot restore older states of photos, RAW or design files with it.

Backup and NAS

With the desktop app you back up selected folders to the cloud regularly, for example daily or every 6 or 12 hours; the marketing page also mentions hourly. You can only start backups from a desktop, and they are included in all paid plans – but not in plans bought from resellers.

According to the help centre, NAS support is only available in the Ultimate plan, as an annual or lifetime plan. You connect Synology and QNAP devices via Docker. There is also a command-line tool, a purely local WebDAV server on your computer and an Rclone connection. S3 access is a separate product with its own subscription.

Plans: annual or lifetime

The three plans are Essential with 1 TB, Premium with 2 TB and Ultimate with 5 TB; the free plan offers 1 GB. You can get each plan as an annual plan billed monthly with a large discount in the first month, or as a lifetime plan with a one-time payment. According to Internxt, lifetime storage can be topped up to 100 TB, and you can split the payment into instalments via Klarna. All paid plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. You'll find current prices and promotions on Internxt's pricing page.

Who Internxt suits

In our view, Internxt suits you if you mainly want to store documents and project files encrypted with a European provider and a lifetime plan appeals to you. For photographers and designers with large image archives, versioning is too narrow, and if you want to back up a NAS, you need the Ultimate plan.

Who is Internxt suitable for?

Editorial assessment

  • For photographers partly suited

Encrypted photo archive with folder backup

Encryption and lifetime fit; versions do not cover image files.

  • For designers partly suited

    Store project files encrypted

Strong encryption; versions only for Office, PDF and CSV files, not for design files.

  • For freelancers and small teams partly suited

    Encrypted storage for client documents

EU provider with a data protection agreement; NAS only in the Ultimate plan, location information inconsistent.

Conclusion

Internxt encrypts all files on your device before they are uploaded and is based in Spain. Scheduled folder backups, apps for all systems and lifetime plans make the service interesting for freelancers. But watch the details: file versioning is only available from Premium upwards and only for PDF, Word, Excel and CSV files up to 10 MB (Premium) or 20 MB (Ultimate), trash retention is short in the small plan, and NAS and WebDAV are only available in the Ultimate plan. Information on server location is also inconsistent.
