How to create a successful Photoshop montage
You probably know that composing an image requires a lot more work than just cropping and combining motifs. But what exactly do you need to look out for when you're creating your own fairytale fantasy Photoshop composition to make it look convincing? Marco Kolditz demonstrates what will benefit your personal workflow and your results.

Tools and procedures for Photoshop composing

In over 90 minutes, an atmospheric, mystical and fantasy-charged composition is created from several images. At the beginning there is a fallen, moss-covered tree, which is combined with a cave-like entrance. Your trainer uses this to prepare the background for the scene.

The rest of the image content is then cropped, placed and transformed. What's missing, such as the washing line and the clothes, is painted, colored and shaded using the Photoshop tools. Always keep an eye on the color matching of the individual elements for a consistent overall impression.

Incorporating fantasy with mood, atmosphere, light and shadow

The Fantasy Photoshop montage is also made more three-dimensional with the help of light and shadow, an added blur gradient and the addition of a painterly look round off the composition of the village. Step by step, the following image is cleaned up - and with each step you enrich your Photoshop know-how .
